Invasive Buckthorn is a menace to our urban forest. To volunteer to help fight it or to learn about our plans to reduce Buckthorn, call Tree Commissioner Randy Spiess at 847-341-8319. Also be sure to read this article published by the Minnesota DNR.

Common Name: Burr Oak Botanical Name: Quercus Macrocarpa

Soils: Will tolerate most soils.
Native tree that will live 100-150 years and grow 60-75 ft. tall.

Common Name: Bald Cypress
Botanical Name: Taxodium Distichum
Soils: Wet areas that are slow to drain. Does very well in peat soils.

Native tree that will live 60-75 years and grow 50-60 ft tall. All needles drop off in fall.
